A spectacular section of the Heysen Trail along the high sandstone cliffs between Waitpinga Beach and Kings Beach in Newland Head Conservation Park.
One of the Fleurieu's best walks
The Waitpinga Cliffs walk is widely considered one of the most spectacular short sections of the Heysen Trail. It runs along the top of dramatic sandstone sea cliffs in Newland Head Conservation Park, looking out over the southern ocean towards Kangaroo Island.
The route
The most popular walk is the 11.5km Waitpinga Cliffs to Kings Beach loop, which follows a section of the Heysen Trail along the clifftops and returns via Waitpinga Beach (about 4-5 hours). Shorter out-and-back options are available from either the Waitpinga or Kings Beach carparks.
Wildlife
The cliffs are a nesting site for the rare White-Bellied Sea Eagle. In winter, southern right whales can often be spotted from the clifftops. Dolphins and Australian fur seals are regular sights year-round.
Getting there
From Victor Harbor, take Waitpinga Road to the Waitpinga Beach carpark (15-20 minutes drive). Alternatively park at the Kings Beach Road carpark / Whale Lookout.
