Tunkalilla Beach
A wild 5km Southern Ocean surf beach inside Deep Creek National Park, accessible via Tunkalilla Road and the Heysen Trail - one of the most remote beaches on the Fleurieu.
A truly remote beach
Tunkalilla Beach runs for 5 km along the Southern Ocean coast inside the eastern end of Deep Creek Conservation Park, between the Tapanappa cliffs and the Coolawang Beach headlands. It is one of the most genuinely remote beaches on the Fleurieu Peninsula - reached by an unsealed road and then a steep walk down from a clifftop carpark.
What it's like
Wild, exposed, big swell, strong rips. This is not a swimming beach. It is for walking, photography, surf-watching and the experience of being completely alone on a beach for an hour or two. The Heysen Trail runs along the back of the beach.
Practical
Free entry to Deep Creek (national park entry fee applies if you're driving in). Tunkalilla Road can be rough - 2WD usually OK in dry weather. No facilities at the beach itself.
