A calm man-made saltwater lake at Encounter Bay with two swim beaches and sheltered paddling for families - one of the safest swimming spots near Victor Harbor.

A saltwater lake by the sea

Encounter Lakes is a man-made saltwater lake system tucked between the housing of Encounter Bay and the Hindmarsh River estuary. The water is calm, salt and clean - the lake is fed and flushed from the sea but protected from waves and currents - which makes it one of the safest family swimming spots in the Victor Harbor area.

Two swim beaches

The lake has two small grassed swim beaches with shallow sandy entries, picnic tables and a path running around most of the perimeter. SUPs, kayaks and small dinghies are popular and you can launch from the beaches.

Practical

Free entry, free parking, no facilities at the swim beaches themselves but toilets nearby. A natural place for families with young children who want a saltwater swim without the surf.
